Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
1. Introduction
Varium SQL ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our desktop application.
2. Local-First Philosophy
Varium SQL is a local-first application. This means:
- All your database connections, queries, and credentials are stored locally on your device
- Your SQL queries are never sent to our servers
- We do not have access to your database contents or connection details
- The application works fully offline after installation
3. Data We Collect
3.1 License Verification
For Pro license holders, we store a minimal record containing:
- Your email address (provided during purchase)
- Your license key
- Purchase date and order ID
3.2 Auto-Updates
When checking for updates, the application sends basic system information (OS type, app version) to our update servers.
3.3 Anonymous Usage Ping
Once a day the application sends a short ping so we can tell how many people are using Varium SQL. It contains:
- A random identifier generated on your device, not linked to you or your email
- Your operating system and the app version
- Whether the installation has a Pro license
It contains nothing about your databases, your connections or your queries.
3.4 Crash Reports
When the application crashes, it sends a report so the bug can be found and fixed. It contains the error type and message, a few lines of the stack trace, your operating system and the app version, plus the same random identifier so repeated reports of one bug are not counted twice.
File paths are stripped before sending, and any report that still appears to contain a password, a connection string or a token is discarded rather than stored. Crash reporting can be turned off in the application's settings.
4. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Database credentials or connection strings
- SQL queries you write or execute
- Query results or database contents
- Names of your databases, tables or columns
- Your IP address, beyond the transient use needed to rate-limit abuse
- Keystroke logs or screen recordings
- Any identifier that links a device to a person
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 Payment Processing
We use Lemon Squeezy as our payment processor. When you purchase a license, your payment information is handled directly by Lemon Squeezy according to their privacy policy. We never see or store your credit card details.
5.2 AI Features (Optional)
If you choose to use AI-powered features, you may configure your own API key for services like OpenAI. Any data sent to these services is governed by their respective privacy policies. We do not store or transmit your AI prompts through our servers.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data. License information is stored securely using industry-standard encryption.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
